Obituary

Dawn Marie Reffells bka "Diva Dawn" was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on July 13, 1967 to the late Anita Jane Reffells and the late Joseph Reffells.  Dawn was the fifth born of six children.  Dawn was called home and received her heavenly wings on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

After the death of her mother in 1978, Dawn along with her other siblings, moved to Slidell, Louisiana, then later Dawn moved to Gretna, Louisiana to live with her Aunt Mary Ann Wyatt where she attended St. Anthony Elementary School in Gretna, Louisiana. Later she relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana to live with her Aunt Stell where she attended Booker T. Washington High School and while there, she was the 1985 Queen of Booker T. Washington's ROTC Division and later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1986.  After high school, Dawn relocated back to Los Angeles, California, where she was a dedicated employee in the Medical Field.  Dawn performed several modeling jobs, movie extras with her most noted on role with two cameo appearance in the well-known movie, "Coming to America" with her late sister Juanita "Red" Reffells and other relatives.  Dawn later relocated back to Slidell, Louisiana where she was employed at Slidell Memorial Hospital as a dedicated employee in the Materials Management Department.  Dawn's three beautiful children whom she loved unconditionally and cherished beyond what words could express were "heartbeats and apples" of her eyes.  If she could, she would literally move heaven and earth for them.  When she became a "Nana", the same applied to her two precious grandchildren whom she loved beyond words as well.

Dawn was proceeded in death by her parents Anita Jane Reffells and Jospeh C. Reffells, Jr.  Her grandparents:  Geneva Batise Dorsey Sylvas, Norman Dorsey, Peter Sylvas, Sr., Naomi and Joseph C. Reffells, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and co-workers.

Dawn leaves to mourn and cherish her precious memory, her three loving and devoted children, Marvon (Shantel (fiance') of Houston, Texas, Cameron (Adriana) of Slidell, Louisiana, and Courtney Calyen of Slidell, Louisiana.  One granddaughter, I'Yumi Alizeti Marli and one grandson, Cameron Joseph Calyen, Jr.  Two sisters Joan (Conrad) Carriere of Slidell, Louisiana, Elizabeth "Poola" (Tico) Moore, of Los Angeles, California.  One brother, Joseph "Doodie" Reffells (Herenitta) of Canton, Ohio.  Diva Dawn will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021.  Viewing from 9:00 am - 11:00 am with Services starting at 11:00 am.  COVID guidelines will be practiced and masks are required.
