Eddie Charles
Johnson, Sr.
May 1, 1958 – December 24, 2024
Eddie "Slick" Charles Johnson, Sr., was born May 1, 1958 to the late Abe Johnson Dr., and Cora B. Smith in Sontag, MS. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
He received Christ at an early age and spent his young adulthood in Mandeville, La where he attended Morning Star Baptist Church and Mandeville High School graduating in 1976. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond for a short time prior to joining the US Army.
Eddie enlisted with the US Army in 1979 where he ranked as a Staff Sergeant (SSGT), served as a Chemical Specialist and fought in the Persian Gulf War. He received the Army Commendation and Army Achievement Medals. He retired in 1995 and received an honorable discharge. He continued his career with the DOD as a Police Officer on Fort Hood (Fort Cavazos) and changed careers to work for RRAD, an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) affiliate prior to retiring on November 19, 2024.
Eddie received his post graduate degrees from Big Bend Community College and Upper Iowa University.
Eddie was also a proud Master Mason who served his community well.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memories his four children: Christy Johnson, Eddie Johnson II (Stephanie), Jordan Johnson and Brittney Johnson. His five grandchildren: Jaylyn Clark, Liam Johnson, Amare Tufono, Ava Johnson and Mya Johnson. He is survived by his siblings: Earline Bostic (Ned), Albert Earl Johnson, Mary Black, Helen Walker (Willie), Rosaland "Denise" Johnson, George Johnson, and Dorothy Burnett. His siblings preceded in death: Steve Johnson, Sallie Mae Johnson, Alberta Johnson, Dennis Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Interment will be held on January 13, 2025 at SE Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, Louisiana at 12:30pm.
May the Lord strengthen and comfort the family during their time of bereavement.
